High School Senior: Marissa

April 15th, 2010

This is my first full session of high school senior portrait. Well sort of…

Marissa supposed to graduate this year along with her other classmates. However, she graduated a year early, and is now in college. Way to go Marissa! :)

Nevertheless, she wanted to do this senior photo session anyway. I’m honored to have her as my first. :)

I knew Marissa through Facebook through other friends, and she is one of the most nicest/politest person in FB. I think Marissa is a beautiful person not only on the outside, but also inside. :)

Engagement: Brittany + Dan

March 18th, 2010

OK. Moving on to November 2009. :)

For some reason, fall season is very very popular for all sort of photo sessions: engagement, weddings, family portrait, etc. You name it. I was fully booked in October and November last year. People just like the weather and the tree colors. :)

This was the first photo session in November, an engagement or pre-wedding photography session with Brittany and Dan at Matapeake Beach and the marina in between the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club and Hemingways.

Dr. Philbin and Staff

March 16th, 2010

I took my son to his orthodontist in late October. When I came in to the office, boy, was I in for a surprise! :D

It was almost Halloween and everyone in the office, including the two orthodontists, were wearing 80′s themed outfit. October 31st fell on a weekend, and the office would not be opened, so they celebrated it on the last couple of weekdays. That is Thursday at the Kent Island office and Friday at the Annapolis office.

Their clothing was so colorful and reminded me of Madonna, Paula Abdul, etc. back in the days. One of the staff became Paul Stanley from KISS. What cracked me up (and amazed me at the same time) was that Dr. Philbin became Michael Jackson. I actually liked the outfit he was wearing better than the typical infamous red jacket that MJ wore for the Thriller video.  Not that there’s anything wrong with the red jacket outfit, but I thought the black shirt with the sequins was awesome! It looked more expensive too! :D

Anyway, since I loved the way they looked, I decided to immortalize the fun that they had and offered them to take their photos.  Fortunately, they liked the idea and happily agreed to do it! Woohoo!! :D

It was morning when I took my son to their office, so I had to come back in the afternoon after the office hours to take the pictures. Well of course, we couldn’t do it when the patient was waiting. They’d be furious! :P

Here are the images from the session…

We originally wanted to do it outside, but then we would have to drive to the location, and that would not be practical for everyone. Luckily, they had this red brick wall in their office. What a perfect backdrop!

As you could see here, the background really matched their colorful outfit. It also reminded me of Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall album. I couldn’t ask for any better. :D

Commercial Work: Eva + Chris

March 10th, 2010

Late October last year, one of my friend asked me if I could take pictures of her children for comp cards. I said, “Sure!”

It was supposed to be in mid October but it rained that weekend, so we decided to postpone it to the next weekend.

We were lucky that the next weekend we got a good weather. Our prayers were answered! :)

The session was supposed to be at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis, but for some reason there was a traffic backup at the Bay Bridge. Not sure what happened. I couldn’ get through and we’re running out of daylight. Fortunately, Heidy was kind enough to offer herself to drive to Kent Island. I found this small picnic park with a pond. We were lucky to get some fall colored trees as well.

Anyway, here’s Eva.

Late September last year, I got a call from Becky, the owner of Crazy Chick Salon in Kent Island, Maryland. I forgot how she learned about my photography business. She wanted me to take picture of her and her hair salon crew for commercial use, such as for newspaper ads.

We finally set a date early October for the photo session. She closed early that day so we could get plenty of daylight.

Unfortunately, some of them could not make it that day. Here are some of the crew. Aren’t they all gorgeous? :)

Wedding: Brianne+Jeremy, Part 1

February 14th, 2010

After the engagement session, then came the big day.

Brianne and Jeremy’s wedding was on October. Yes, I am very very behind on my blogs, but my policy is take care clients first, blogs second. Haha… :D

It was almost a full day coverage starting from the getting ready for the groom, best man, and groomsman, and also the bride, maid of honor and bridesmaids. I document the event all the way until the end.

This picture during sunset is their favorite image of all. They even order a large canvas gallery wrap from me to hang this image over their fireplace. :)

Wedding: Hannaliina+Daniel

October 20th, 2009

Back in summer, I got a call from Finland. I thought my ears deceived me :D , but yup she said that she’s calling from Finland. Hannaliina said that she searched for a Kent Island wedding photographer, found me, and really liked my photography style.  Since I was driving at the time, I asked her to call back later or email me. She said that her fiancee lived in Maryland and would call me.

I then got to know Daniel through email, phone conversation, and a face-to-face meeting. I didn’t get to meet Hannaliina until the wedding day.

Then came the wedding day on September. It was small and intimate. No wedding guests. Almost like an intimate destination wedding. Then again, it was a destination wedding for Hannaliina. :) The ceremony was short and sweet. So we spent the rest of the times doing a private bride and groom photo session. Which what I loved to do! I get to pick the places and the settings. :)

We did the photography sessions at Love Point, at an abandoned structure in Kent Island, and at Terrapin Nature Park beach (one of the beach on Chesapeake Bay). I had thought about doing a session at Annapolis, but there wouldn’t be enough time and thought that it would be less intimate there.

As you can see from these pictures below, it’s like having the whole world for just the two of them. Pretty romantic is isn’t it? :)

Family Session: Shane Family

October 7th, 2009

I did another family session at Kent Island last summer, or end of summer. No little children this time. All of them are already grown up. :)

It was also a family reunion, celebrating Mom and Dad’s wedding anniversary. The photo session was actually a gift from the children to their parents.

The Shane family originally wanted to do the session in Annapolis as well, but then they rather maximize their time on Kent Island. So we did the session at Matapeake Beach, one of the Chesapeake Bay beaches.

Steve who found me on Google searched for a fun family portrait session. He liked my photography style and said that “the pictures brings out the personality”. He called me from California and booked me. :D

Beyond the Veil

August 13th, 2009

I was introduced to Beyond the Veil band over a year ago when they performed at my son’s school during a chapel day. I became more acquainted with them through Facebook.

This summer, I got a chance to capture the band’s live performance at Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department (KIVFD) Carnival. I believe the music performance was part of their “BTV Gives Back” program. The program helps other organizations to raise funds.

Anyway, here’s Sierra Tuner, vocalist and percussionist.
